Creating and Applying Template

You can create and apply a template to all devices in an Account when you need a particular device configuration. Apply Template replaces Reset Site to Template in the Actions list.

Overview

You can create and apply a template to all devices in an Account when you need a particular device configuration. The template that you create is accessible only in your Account. After the template is created, you can apply it to a device. If the firmware version is different between the template and the target device, you can still apply the template, but some settings might not be changed. Only settings that have been modified are changed. The SIM settings are not changed.

GSM Settings

The following GSM settings are not changed when a template is applied:

gsm_apn
gsm_apn_pass
gsm_apn_user
gsm_copsmode
gsm_disable
gsm_done_onetime_setup
server_addr
server_port
server_url
cdma_activated
cdma_disable
comm_disable
gsm_op_id
gsm_op_mode
gsm_op_rat
preferred_link_type
cell_fach_enhancements
use_cmux
gsm_mqtt_enable
sim_sel
gsm_apn_pass_sim2
gsm_apn_sim2
gsm_apn_user_sim2
server_ssl_port
use_ssl
mqtt_server_addr

gsm_op_id_sim2
gsm_op_mode_sim2
gsm_op_rat_sim2

Note: When the template is applied to the device, its previous data streams are removed and replaced with new data streams. The device's original technical streams, reports, logs, and commands remain. Templates are compatible with devices sharing identical Hardware Revision codes as the template.

Prerequisites

  • To create a template, you must have the Owner or Partner role.

  • To apply a template to any Account you can edit, you must have the Administrator, Owner, or Partner role.

To Create a Template

  1. Click Devices in the left pane.

  2. Go to the site where you want to create a template.

  3. Click Actions > Create Template From Site.

  4. In the Create Template window, select the Account, and then type in a meaningful name for the template (e.g., date and firmware version).

  5. Click Submit.

  6. Check that the new template is listed in the Account. Templates are labeled with the yellow icon.

To Apply the Template

  1. Click Fleet in the left pane. The Devices window opens.

  2. In the Devices window, choose the target device. If selecting multiple devices, check the Firmware column to ensure compatibility.

  3. Click Set Action > Apply Template.

  4. In the Apply Template window, select the template to apply.

  5. You will only see templates assigned to you. If the template is not listed, it may be incompatible due to mismatched firmware versions or hardware.

  6. Click Next. The system will verify template compatibility. Any incompatible settings will be listed as WARNINGS.

    • You may ignore the warnings or resolve them. If you click OK to ignore, only the remaining compatible settings will be applied.

  7. Select the Accept checkbox, and then click Submit.

    • The process may take up to one hour, depending on device transmission frequency.

  8. If successful, skip to the next section. Otherwise:

    • A message will appear indicating the reason for failure. Click the reason to view details.

    • When applying to multiple devices, some may fail while others succeed. The status will say “Data Failed”. The message will indicate which device failed and why.

To Verify the Template

  1. After applying the new template, verify that everything works in the lab.

  2. Connect the sensor to the device.

  3. Return to the Schneider Electric UI.

  4. Confirm that the new data streams are sending data and values appear as expected.

Troubleshooting

  1. In Fleet Management, find the target device by entering its serial number.

  2. Click Device from the top menu options.

  3. Click the Commands tab to open the latest commands table.

  4. In the Command column, scroll down to find “Set Configuration”.

    • Initially, the Status for “Set Configuration” and “Reboot” will be 0% and grayed out.

  5. When Status reaches 100%, right-click 100% to see command completion:

    • Sent and Succeed should be greater than 0.

    • Data Failed should be 0.

  6. Click the Configuration tab and scroll to the STREAM MANAGEMENT section. Confirm the table data is correct.

  7. Open the ADVANCED DEVICE CONFIGURATION section, then go to SampleGroup > GROUP.

  8. Click the appropriate group, then click group_active. The value should be 1 or AS_ON, meaning grouping is active.

To Check a Stream on the Target Device

  1. Click a stream that uses transformation formulas (e.g., Flow).

  2. Click the Configuration tab to verify configuration formulas.

  3. Click the Samples tab to review values in the Raw Value and Final Value columns.

To Compare with Default Settings

  1. Click Fleet in the left pane. The Devices window opens.

  2. Select the target device, then click Set Action.

  3. Select Compare Device Settings with Default to verify the target device has the expected settings.
