Creating and Editing Streams
Data streams are used to sample and record data, while technical streams provide device-specific information to monitor the health of a device. For example, a technical stream can monitor external power usage to ensure the device remains operational. Each technical stream uses pre-defined engineering units tailored to the type of data being monitored.
Creating a Technical or Data Stream
In the left pane, click Devices → Fleet Management.
Use the Search Bar to locate the device by entering its serial number.
In the Results Table, click the row corresponding to the device.
Open the Device Tab by clicking the serial number and scroll down to the Stream Management section.
In the Stream Management area of the Configuration Tab, click the dropdown menu next to the Refresh button.
From the dropdown list, select Technical Streams or Data Streams. A list of available channels for the selected stream type will be displayed.
If a stream is already assigned to a channel, it will appear in the Stream column.
Locate an unassigned channel and click the plus (+) icon at the end of the row. This opens the Connect Channel to Stream window.
In the New Stream Display Name field, enter a meaningful name for the stream.
In the Stream Type - Engineering Units field, select the most suitable engineering units for the new stream.
Click Submit to create the stream. Refresh the browser page to view the newly created stream under the device.
Note: If data for the device was already being streamed to the server, you may see historical data in the Samples Tab immediately after creating the stream.
